Galaxy S8 Press Shots, Pricing Leaked Ahead Of Launch

Updated on

There have been way too many leaks about the Samsung Galaxy S8 in the last few weeks. But when there is a new leak from noted tipster Evan Blass, you gotta stop and take notice. Blass has a damn good track record when it comes to revealing details of yet-to-be-announced smartphones. Just a few days before the official unveiling, Blass has leaked the press shots and European pricing of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. The press shots show some new color options.

Galaxy S8 in Black Sky, Orchid Grey and Arctic Silver colors

On Sunday, the tipster shared photos of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus in Black Sky, Orchid Grey, and Arctic Silver color options. Earlier leaks have shown the devices in only black and gold colors. The latest leak indicates that Samsung might introduce a new color range. The images shared by Blass confirm many of the rumored features of the next-gen Galaxy smartphones.

For instance, the phones have a giant dual-edge display with no physical home button on the front. The Galaxy S8 is rumored to have a virtual home button embedded in the display. The fingerprint scanner now sits on the rear, next to the main camera. On the left edge of the device, you can see volume rockers and a dedicated button for the Bixby AI assistant. The power button can be seen on the right edge.

Galaxy S8 to be more expensive than S7

Samsung has historically added new color options through the lifespan of its flagship devices. So, we can expect many more color options. Just a few days ago, a Jet Black Galaxy S8 was leaked. Last year, the Korean electronics giant launched a special Jet Black Galaxy S7 Edge under the name Black Pearl soon after Apple’s Jet Black iPhone 7 became a rage.

In another tweet, Evan Blass revealed the prices of the upcoming flagship smartphones. The Galaxy S8 would start at EUR 799 and the S8 Plus would have a starting price of EUR 899. That’s a EUR 100 jump over the last year’s Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. Previous rumors claimed that the Galaxy S8 could retail for $1,000 or more. Blass also revealed that the new GearVR would cost €129, the new Gear360 would be priced at €229, and a Continuum-like DeX accessory would be offered at €150.

Rumored features and specs

The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus would sport 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch Super AMOLED displays. Recent reports coming out of Korea claim that Samsung would incorporate 3D Touch-like pressure sensitive technology in the Galaxy S8 display. Both the S8 and S8 Plus would be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, though some markets will get the Exynos 8895-powered variant. The phones will run Android Nougat right out of the box.

The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are said to come with facial recognition and iris scanning technologies for security, besides the usual fingerprint scanner. The phones will have 3,000mAh and 3,500mAh batteries respectively. Samsung will launch the phones at an Unpacked event at 11 a.m. ET on March 29th in New York.
