You Can Mount Zeiss Lenses On The New ExoLens iPhone 7 Case

Updated on

Most pro photographers love the idea of pairing professional-grade lenses to their iPhones to significantly upgrade mobile photography. However, attaching giant lenses requires them to remove the iPhone case, which could put the device at risk. Now ExoLens, which had earlier partnered with Zeiss to bring pro lenses to the iPhone, has announced a protective case for the iPhone 7.

Made using impact-resistant materials

The case is designed to keep your device safe from drops, bumps, and scratches while you shoot like a pro with ExoLens’ range of Zeiss lenses. John Fellowes, the CEO of Fellowes Brands which owns ExoLens, said the new case was created using impact-resistant materials. The “ultra-durable dual-layer case” is designed to be slim and low-profile.

No doubt the iPhone 7 camera is great. But you can pack only so much in a slim smartphone. You need professional-grade lenses for professional-looking shots. The new ExoLens case is compatible with Zeiss Pro lenses and the upcoming ExoLens Prime lenses. In October, the company started offering a wide range of Zeiss telephoto, wide-angle, and macro lenses in the range of $150 to $200. These lenses allow you to use your iPhone 7 camera in ways never before possible.

ExoLens also working on iPhone 7 Plus case

The ExoLens case will be showcased at the CES 2017 this week in Las Vegas. Though the company is yet to disclose its pricing, the case will be available for purchase in the first quarter of 2017. The iPhone 7 case was designed specifically with the ExoLens attachments in mind. You don’t have to remove the protective case when you are done with photography.

ExoLens has not revealed whether it plans to make such cases for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S. The company said it was designing a special case that would accommodate the Zeiss lenses on the iPhone 7 Plus, which has a dual-camera system. ExoLens is not the only company to have launched such a protective case. Other brands like Olloclip and Moment already have cases that keep the smartphone cameras protected while serving as a mount for professional-grade lenses.

Apple thinks iPhone 7 Plus is as good as a professional camera

While companies like ExoLens and Zeiss offer giant lenses to help iPhone users capture professional-looking images, Apple has been positioning the iPhone 7 Plus as an equivalent to DSLR cameras. In recent ads, the Cupertino company tried to convince its fans that the iPhone 7 Plus was as good as Hollywood movie cameras.

The 5.5-inch iPhone comes with dual 12MP high-speed sensors with f/1.8 aperture, optical image stabilization (OIS), new image signal processors, and a wide color gamut. It has a dedicated Portrait mode that blurs the background and focuses the viewers’ attention on the foreground subject.
