Thanks to the recent launch of the PSVR, the console gaming world has been given a much-needed pick-me-up. However, VR isn’t the only thing that has gamers talking. There’s also the Nintendo NX, and while the Japanese giant remains silent about its next-gen console, rumors and speculation continue. Here’s the very latest news from the grapevine, including apparent discounts, announcement date, games and more.
90% discount off Nintendo NX
According to the latest rumor, Nintendo is going to give a 90% discount to consumers who own a Wii U. In addition to the console, they must also own 10 specific games and have them linked to MyNintendo. In a tweet yesterday, @Q_Mulative suggested that this was the only Nintendo NX rumor worth spreading.
The above information was first spotted on imgur.com, but no source can be found. So without a credible source, this Nintendo NX rumor can be taken with a grain of salt. I can’t believe that Nintendo would affect its bottom line so intentionally.
A lot has been said about when we can expect to hear from the horse’s mouth about the NX. Until now, rumors doing the rounds have suggested a 2016 reveal, but no firm date has been given. However, that could have now changed. Express suggests that the console will be announced on October 21. This announcement, according to the report, will take place at the same time as Nintendo’s Direct event, which could also take place on October 21, the same date the first online presentation took place in 2011.
To back this up, financial services group Macquarie has indicated that it too believes the Nintendo NX announcement to be this Friday. It’s also believed that as soon as an official statement comes, demo units will make their way to retailers.
While the gaming world is reaching fever pitch in anticipation of the console, the finance world is not so happy. According to Techradar, this lack of excitement could point towards the price of the Nintendo NX beingtoo expensive, with firms like Macquarie downgrading its expected sales performance for the console/mobile hybrid from Good to Neutral.
So what will the price be? The fact is that no one knows, but Macquarie expects it to cost somewhere around $300-350, which it considers too high.
The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild: means no power
iDigitalTimes recently considered why the Nintendo NX would be an under-powered machine. Its assumptions were based on the expectation that The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild will be a launch title and what producer Eiji Aonuma told GameSpot.
He said: “Users will be able to have the same experience with the NX version as they will with the Wii U version.”
This can be taken in a number of different ways, with the most common being that the Nintendo NX will have the same content, graphics, and performance of the Wii U. If true, this would be extremely disappointing for any would-be owner of the device. It would be better for any game to push the Nintendo NX to its limits and for the performance of the NX to be considerably better than the previous generation.
