Rumors about the successor to the iPad Pro have been few and far between. Apple unveiled the 12.9-inch iPad Pro in September last year, which went on sale in November. Will Apple launch the iPad Pro 2 by the end of this year? What should we expect to see in the next iteration of the jumbo tablet? Let’s take a look at recent leaks, rumored specs, and release date of the iPad Pro 2.

iPad Pro 2 leaked

A few days ago, Apple Insider obtained two images of the so-called iPad Pro 2 from an Apple Chinese supplier. It indicates that the Cupertino company is preparing for the production of the next-gen 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Though the tablet’s model number MH1C2CD/F is not assigned to any current or past iPad models, it does follow Apple’s numbering convention. Note that the identification number can easily be forged, so these leaks should be taken with a pinch of salt.

The photos show the iPad’s settings screen in Chinese. It runs the latest beta of the iOS 10. The tablet shown in these images is equipped only with 12GB of storage, indicating that it was built only for internal testing purposes.

iPad Pro 2 specs

Though not much is known about the iPad Pro 2, the tablet is rumored to sport a faster processor dubbed A10X and an enhanced camera. The next 12.9-inch iPad cannot be inferior to the 9.7-inch iPad Pro that was unveiled earlier this year. So, it will at least feature a True Tone display technology that automatically adjusts the white balance to give you a more realistic experience.

Other expected features include a 12-megapixel iSight camera with 4K recording and Live Photos support, and a 5MP front camera with a Retina Flash.

iPad Pro 2 release date

Apple Insider reports that the tablet is expected to go into production by the end of September, the same month the iPhone 7 is set to go on sale. The publication speculates that Apple could hold a separate event in October or November to launch the iPad Pro 2 and a new MacBook. The Cupertino company is rumored to unveil a new MacBook Pro with OLED touchbar in time for the holiday shopping season.
