Galaxy Note 7 specs, features leaked in new report

Updated on

Excitement continues to build about the Galaxy Note 7 phablet which is soon to be released by Samsung.

After months of rumors and speculation we are about to find out the truth about the new smartphone, which will go into battle with the soon-to-be-released Apple iPhone 7. The new Samsung handset is set to make its debut at an Unpacked event in New York City next week.

Curved display with Gorilla Glass 5

The latest report from Talk Android has provided some more rumored specs for the Galaxy Note 7, including the possibility that it will have a slightly curved display. The report claims that the curvature will sit somewhere between a flat screen and the curved display already seen on the Galaxy S7 Edge.

According to the report the curvature will be more subtle as Samsung believes that users do not want such a pronounced curve. Another rumor deals with the display itself, predicting that the Galaxy Note 7 will have Gorilla Glass 5 on the front.

The report also corroborates previous rumors that the device will feature a USB Type-C connector. It also says that Gear VR will not be compatible with the Galaxy Note 7. Samsung is set to introduce a new version of the Gear VR that will be compatible with the new handset as well as other high-end devices from the company stable.

Samsung working to improve Galaxy Note 7 battery life

Many smartphone users complain about poor battery life, and customers are hoping that Samsung will address the issue. The report does not specifically mention battery capacity, but it does say that Samsung is working on ways to improve battery life on the Galaxy Note 7. It looks like one such method will be an added option to reduce the resolution of the display to 720p, down from the standard QHD or 2K.

The report also corroborates previous rumors that the device would be waterproof. Interestingly it looks like the Galaxy Note 7 will be waterproof even if the S Pen is in use, with the silo it slides into now being waterproof.

On previous models the waterproofing was undone by the fact that the S Pen silo was not waterproof. It will be a welcome move from Samsung if it improves this previous oversight.

Impressive specs described in report

The report does not mention the processor, but it does say that the Galaxy Note 7 will ship with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. Previous reports have claimed that the device will have 6GB RAM.

However the report agrees with previous rumors which predict that the cameras will be the same ones as seen on the Galaxy S7 smartphones. These include a 12MP Dual Pixel rear camera and a 5MP selfie camera, both of which are highly regarded and have received top reviews.

Although the report corrobroates previous rumors on a number of specs, it is important to remember that they are all just rumors at this stage. Luckily we don’t have too long to wait until the phone is officially unveiled on August 2 in New York.

The Galaxy Note 7 will be the biggest rival to Apple’s iPhone 7 in the flagship smartphone market. It will be interesting to see if the handset can maintain Samsung’s current title of the largest selling smartphone brand in the U.S. market, and we are in for an interesting few months.
