Leak Points To Impressive Galaxy Note 6 Specs

Updated on

The new flagship phablet from Samsung is garnering huge amounts of attention online and the latest leak suggests that the Galaxy Note 6 will be hugely impressive.

Samsung is expected to pack in a huge amount of power in its next flagship device, which has gained a strong base of power users in its previous editions. If the latest leaks turn out to be accurate, the Galaxy Note 6 will be a hugely powerful phablet.

Huge processing power rumored for Galaxy Note 6

One leak on Chinese microblogging site Weibo suggests that the Galaxy Note 6 will have a large 5.8-inch display with a QHD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. The leak suggests that the smartphone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 823 processor that will be paired with 6GB RAM.

The Snapdragon 823 is an upgrade on the impressive Snapdragon 820 chip, which is used in the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones. It looks likely that Samsung will release Exynos-powered versions of the Galaxy Note 6 for different markets.

With such powerful processors and 6GB RAM we will see a smartphone that has comparable levels of power to a notebook computer. Such processing power is arguably unnecessary in today’s market, but manufacturers are keen to be seen to be at the forefront of smartphone technology.

Improved battery life, water and dust protection

According to the Weibo leak the Galaxy Note 6 will have as much as 256 GB internal storage as well as a 4,200 mAh battery. This should improve battery life, which is a constant bugbear for smartphone users today.

It is also thought that the Galaxy Note 6 will be IP68 rated, making it dust and water resistant. Previous rumors had suggested that Samsung was developing both a flat screen and a curved screen version of the phablet, but this latest Weibo leak mentions a flat display. This could mean that tests favored that screen.

However if there is a curved screen model it looks set to sell as the premium model, in fitting with Samsung’s previous smartphones.

In another report from SamMobile, the possibility of a USB Type-C connector is raised. If the feature is included then the Galaxy Note 6 will be the first Samsung device to have the connector.

The idea that Samsung might add the USB Type-C is not that outlandish. A growing number of manufacturers are including the new connector, including LG and HTC.

July release to steal a march on Apple iPhone 7

Other rumors suggest that Samsung will put an iris scanner on the Galaxy Note 6, and the new device could be released sooner than previously thought. The Galaxy Note 5 launched in August last year, but the latest flagship is expected in July this year.

This earlier release date could help Samsung get a headstart over bitter rival Apple, which is expected to release its new iPhone 7 in September. The two manufacturers continue to battle it out in the high-end smartphone market.

Rumors continue to swirl about the arrival of the iPhone 7, with plenty of attention being paid to the features that could see Apple catch up with Samsung in certain areas. If the latest rumors are true, Apple will use the same screen as on the iPad Pro in order to beat Samsung’s existing OLED displays in tests.

Apple could also introduce a new dual-camera system in order to catch up with Samsung in that department. The company’s existing 12 megapixel units are widely regarded as the best smartphone cameras on the market thanks to Dual Pixel technology.
