Microsoft: These Lumia Phones Will Get Windows 10 Mobile First

Updated on

Microsoft recently revealed a list of the Lumia models that will be the first to get updates to the latest Windows 10 Mobile OS. Windows 10 was launched last week, and the mobile version will be unveiled soon.

Many new features with Windows 10

The first Lumia models to get Windows 10 Mobile will be the Lumia 930, Lumia 830, Lumia 735, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 640, Lumia 540, Lumia 535, Lumia 532, Lumia 435, and Lumia 430, Microsoft noted in a blog post.

Microsoft Windows 10 Mobile will offer users universal apps, a retooled Action Center and the new Edge browser. To upgrade to Windows 10, a user will need to have the Lumia Denim software update installed on their Lumia device.

“Take care of everyday tasks faster with an improved Action Center, enjoy a distraction-free reading experience with the Microsoft Edge browser, and do more on the move with universal apps like Maps, Calendar, and Photos,” the tech firm said in a blog post.

Microsoft in process to launch next Lumia flagship device

In related news, Microsoft is expected to unveil its Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL devices by the end of this year. Both the phones will be high-end, but the Lumia 950 XL is considered as the next flagship Windows phone. Though there have been a few specifications leaks and mockups, a Chinese site on Tuesday showcased a prototype version of the Lumia 950 XL. The gadget is seen inside a protective black casing, which makes it difficult to see details, but confirms that it will be shipped with a USB Type-C support.

The Verge has confirmed the accuracy of the images, saying the tech firm is testing the handset in a casing to prevent leaks. Microsoft is making preparations to launch both the handsets; 5.2-inch Lumia 950 and 5.7-inch Lumia 950 XL, during an event in late September or October. The bigger Lumia will support Surface Pen technology along with a new smart cover, which will have a rounded cut to allow easy access to notifications. The devices will be equipped with a 20-megapixel PureView camera, and the XL will have triple LED flash. Both the Lumias will feature Snapdragon 808 processors and 3GB of RAM.
