The official roll out of Microsoft’s new operating system will begin in a month, and the company has released another preview build.
Testers on the Insider Program can now access Windows 10 Build 10158, which includes “Edge” branding for the new browser, previously known as “Project Spartan“.
Move from Spartan to Edge
Fast Ring testers got the new build on June 29, while the latest preview build of Windows 10 Mobile for Windows Phones was released last week, and also features the “Edge” branding.
The change from Spartan to Edge also comes with a new app ID which will delete favorites, cookies, history and reading list items from Spartan. If you want to save those pieces of information during the changeover, Microsoft says that you will need to back up your favorites.
The new Edge app features new customizations, a dark theme, password and form-fill options, among other updates.
Other progress is evident in the new build, including general improvements to the user experience and bug fixes. Windows 10 will include a new feature known as Continuum, which allows users to switch between Tablet mode and Desktop mode, and build 10158 brings several updates to the tool.
Windows 10 approaching general release date
Microsoft has also updated the Photos app and the Snipping Tool, while specific bug fixes were released for Windows 10 on Surface 3 and Surface Pro 3 tablets.
Company executives previously announced that the Insider Hub would not be pre-installed on build 10158, but it can be added manually. A test build of the software development kit has now been released to Insiders, and it will include an emulator for Windows 10 mobile.
Further updates were made to Microsoft’s personal digital assistant, Cortana. It is now integrated with Office 365, which means that those who are participating in the First Release program for Office 365 will see Cortana recommendations related to their planned activities.
PC and tablet users will get Windows 10 on July 29, and an evaluation version of Windows 10 Enterprise will be made available for a limited time on that same date. Microsoft left itself with little time to fix bugs before the roll out of the new operating system, but the steady stream of updates and new builds shows that the company is working hard to ensure that Windows 10 is a polished product.
