Samsung will release Galaxy Note 5 on August 13: Korean Media

Updated on

Consistent rumors about sooner than expected release of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 5 are going to end up true if reports coming out of South Korea are to be believed. Samsung usually refreshes its Galaxy Note line at the annual IFA event in September. However, two different reports claimed earlier this month that the device would be announced on August 12. Now Business Korea reports that Samsung will hold an event in New York on August 13 to unveil the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+.

Sprint user-agent profile reveals Galaxy Note 5 specs

The Korean publication added that Samsung is launching its next phablet ahead of schedule to get a head start on Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6S and 6S Plus that are expected to hit the stores in mid-September. Meanwhile, a Polish reporter has dug into the user-agent profile of a smartphone carrying model number SM-N920P, which is believed to be the Sprint version of Galaxy Note 5.

The user-agent profile suggests that the Galaxy Note 5 will have an expandable storage. It will support microSDXC cards up to 128GB. That should tone down the criticism Samsung has received since it stripped the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge of expandable storage. The Galaxy Note 5 will have a huge 4,100mAh battery. The Sprint user-agent profile further reveals that the Note 5 will have a 16-megapixel main camera and 5-megapixel front snapper.

Galaxy Note 5 arrives in India for R&D

Both the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge + will come with 3GB RAM and Android 5.1 Lollipop. The Galaxy Note 5 arrived in India last week for R&D purposes, according to the Indian import-export tracking website Zauba. The device listed on Zauba has model number SM-N920, the same model number that recently passed through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The Galaxy Note 5 will have an auto-ejectable stylus. The new S Pen will have a clickable top to enable the auto-ejection feature. The device will reportedly feature a 5.67-inch Super AMOLED display and a powerful Exynos 7422 processor. According to SamMobile, both devices will go for sale in major markets on August 21.
