Microsoft acknowledged the performance of its best suppliers through the 2015 Microsoft Supplier Program (MSP) Excellence Awards on Wednesday. The MSP award is given to suppliers based on their outstanding performance, exemplary service and innovation.

Suppliers nominated by Microsoft employee

Microsoft gives away the awards and recognizes the services of suppliers to build a long-term relationship with a group of strategic suppliers that eventually contribute in creating long-term value for the company.

Suppliers were nominated by Microsoft employees in various business units, previous MSP suppliers and Microsoft procurement professionals. The final winners were chosen by a panel of the company’s employees and external judges. Microsoft also thanked its MSP Supplier Advisory Board, which was set up in 2012 and currently includes 24 companies.

The criteria on the basis of which the winners were selected included quality, value, service and innovation. Microsoft announced the names of the winners during the 13th Annual MSP Summit at Microsoft’s main corporate campus in Redmond, Wash.

Mike Simms, general manager and chief procurement officer at Microsoft, said, “I am very pleased to recognize this year’s Supplier Program Excellence Award winners for their outstanding performance.”

Simms added that every year suppliers amaze Microsoft with their commitment to excellence, innovation and collaboration. The executive added that the winners have delivered “high-impact” results and contributed to the success of Microsoft. Simms expressed gratitude towards the winners for their substantial contributions and partnerships, acknowledging all of the nominees.

Awards were given in three categories: Supplier Diversity, Responsible Sourcing Leadership (Bridging the Opportunity Divide, Climate Performance and Impact Sourcing), and MSP Supplier of the Year.

Indian IT firm Wipro was awarded the Supplier of the Year Award for exhibiting excellence across various platforms. In a statement, Microsoft stated that Wipro has shown excellence in various disciplines such as “Process Transformation, Product Quality Improvement, and Cost Optimization Efficiency Improvement and Automation.”

Microsoft has thousands of third-party suppliers. The MSP awards were created by the company 13 years ago to create a strong supplier management community by acknowledging their contributions.
