How To Try Out YouTube’s New Web Player

Updated on

YouTube, the most-visited video site on the planet, has got some changes coming. This time, the web player’s user interface is going to be changed, and you can try it out right now before it is officially rolled out to the public.

This new video player displays a transparent control bar which hides when you are not using it, just like mobile video players. The seek bar is now made thinner, and it enlarges when you mouse over the bar. Overall, YouTube has made the video player more modern and minimalist too.

This new interface has not yet been rolled out to the public, but if you want to try it out right now, then here’s a Chrome extension that will let you do it.

Enabling new YouTube video player

To try out this new web player interface of YouTube, install and activate the EditThisCookie extension for Google Chrome.

Once the extension is installed, you’ll be able to see a new cookie type icon in your Chrome toolbar. Now visit YouTube and click on this cookie icon, which will present you with many options. Look for the option that says VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE and click on it.

In the text box that appears there, replace the original values with Q06SngRDTGA.

Once you do this, click on the big green tick mark to save the changes. That’s all you need to do. Now visit YouTube again or reload the page and you’ll be able to see this new modern web player of YouTube.
