Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 Will Be Thinner Than iPad Air 2

Samsung reportedly is working on a makeover for the upcoming Galaxy Tab S2, which may include premium features and a lighter body

SamMobile suggested the upcoming Galaxy Tab S2 will feature a squarish display with an aspect ratio of 4:3. This tablet will reportedly be available in two variations: 8 inches and 9.7 inches. Perhaps the most remarkable rumor about the upcoming tablet is that it will be thinner than Apple’s iPad Air 2. The latter device measures at just 6.1 millimeters, and the current Galaxy Tab isn’t too far off at 6.6 millimeters.

Earlier reports from the same website suggested the South Korean tech maker is working on two devices, the Tab A and Tab A Plus. Both tablets are said to be in the mid-range market, and the latter could also come with a stylus. Such a tablet could give Samsung a strong edge against competitors and possibly reignite interest in tablets.

Apple’s rumored iPad Pro may arrive sooner than expected, as some sources predict a May or June release. There is much speculation that this larger iPad will be aimed exclusively at business and professional markets rather than the consumer market.

A larger iPad may be in the works

A report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo indicates that Apple may be planning to launch the larger tablet with a stylus. He based his speculation on his research and the sheer number of stylus pen patents. The analyst added that devices with a significant cost paired up with a stylus may turn off customer interest. He believes the stylus will be a separate accessory before a decent amount of feedback.

A larger iPad would appeal to those who want the tablet experience but in a bigger size. It would also re-balance the current computer market. A report from Bloomberg suggests production for the iPad Pro is currently underway and will start in the next quarter. The new iPad is rumored to measure 12.9 inches diagonally. It may also feature an A8 processor and a Touch ID fingerprint sensor.
