While the year isn’t quite finished, Google has released the search habits of its users.
Craft beers just weren’t going to make the list given their regional affiliations and limited productions. While the craft brewing industry continues to make big strides, in the aggregate it just wasn’t going to show up in search results. While craft beers have nuances to warrant more information, when it comes to Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Budweiser remains “The King of Beers” and the “King of Search.”
Top searched beers on Google
I’m not certain what one needs to search about when it comes to Budweiser, a beer that hasn’t changed in popularity or taste in forever, but there it is heading the list. Rounding out the podium is Corona in second place and Keystone in third place. The top ten finishes in this order: Miller, Blue Moon, Coors, Bud Light, PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon), Modelo, and Sierra Nevada.
While PBR has been a mass-produced beer for decades, it’s only in the last 10 or 15 years that it has gained a niche among hipsters and those wanting to look cool without a cigarette. For true beer aficionados, most would quickly agree that Sierra Nevada offers the best beers on this list but they have long outgrown the term “microbrewery.”
As far as cocktail searches go, a cocktail almost without exception needed to begin with an “M” in order to make the list. The margarita was top the search list followed by the martini. Sangria found itself in third to be followed by Mojito, Mimosa, Mint Julip, and the Moscow Mule. Rounding out the top ten were the White Russian, Long Island Ice Tea, and the Tequila Sunrise.
Top food Google searches
When it comes to food, perhaps a reflection of a strengthening economy, more searches were made for “restaurant” than “recipe.” Pizza was the single most searched food item by a wide margin with “chicken,” “meatloaf,” and “banana bread” making the top three in recipe searches. Specific diets are also searched by millions with the top three being: Paleo, Atkings, and Gluten-Free.
Lastly in the “superfood” arena, Kale took a bow to leaders chia seeds and goji berries in 2014.
