Nexus 9 Has A ‘Bendgate-Like’ Design Flaw

Updated on

No, the Nexus 9 tablet doesn’t bend exactly like the iPhone 6 Plus, Galaxy Note 4 or the iPad Air 2 for that matter. But it has a ‘bendgate-like’ issue of its own. Ron Amadeo of Ars Technica posted a GIF on Google+, which shows that you can easily indent the plastic back of the Nexus 9 by applying minimal pressure in the middle of the back panel.

Only black version of Nexus 9 seems to be affected

Since it has a plastic  body, it luckily pops back up when you remove the pressure. In his post, Amadeo mocks Google’s latest tablet for having a “premium” design with a rear shell that can be indented with just one finger. It raises questions over build quality. Nexus 9 hit the stores only a few days ago. Phone Cruncher reports that the issue seems to be affecting only black version of the tablet. The white model is built using a different material.

It’s a bit difficult to believe that the issue has occurred in Nexus 9, a device made by HTC. The Taiwanese company is known for making some of the best premium construction devices like HTC One, Nexus One and HTC Desire. But with Nexus 9, some buyers now regret their decision to buy it. However, it won’t be as big an issue as the iPhone 6 Plus bendgate because the Nexus 9’s soft-touch plastic pops back into place. But it is worth considering if you are shelling out a handsome amount ($399).

Nexus 9’s flaw unlikely to get much attention

The iPhone 6 Plus doesn’t easy get back into shape because aluminum doesn’t take back its regular form as easily as plastic. Another reason Nexus 9’s design flaw won’t garner as much attention is that not too many people will be buying it. The Nexus 9 runs the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop. It sports a gorgeous 8.9-inch display with 2048 x 1536 resolution, a 64-bit NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor with 2.3GHz clock speed and 2GB RAM.
