Groupon Inc Buys Analytics Startup Swarm Mobile

Groupon Inc (NASDAQ:GRPN) announced its acquisition of Swarm Mobile, a start-up based in San Francisco to enhance its local commerce platform and merchant operating system.

Swarm Mobile provides analytics and customer engagement platform for retailers. Rudd Davis and Ryan Denehy co-founded the start-up in 2012. It develops different smart devices that use Bluetooth, infrared and Wi-Fi technology.

Groupon absorbs Swarm Mobile’s team

In a blog post, Groupon Inc (NASDAQ:GRPN) emphasized that retailers use the data analytics and customer relationship management tools of Swarm Mobile to boost their sales and create a closer and long-term relationships with customers.

The daily deals company said the team of Swarm Mobile will join its merchant operating system (MOS) in San Francisco. The combined team would put Swarm Mobile’ assets work and improve Groupon’s platform.

Groupon Inc (NASDAQ:GRPN) said, “The more merchants understand about consumer shopping habits, the more customers benefit through specialized offers, tailored notifications and the opportunity to provide real-time feedback.  We’re excited to have Swarm join us in our mission to connect local commerce.”

According to the daily deals company, Swarm Mobile will continue to develop its product portfolio and partner roster.

Groupon Inc (NASDAQ:GRPN) did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction.

Groupon rolled out travel discovery app

Last week, Groupon Inc (NASDAQ:GRPN) rolled out its travel discovery app for iPhone and Android devices. According to the company, the app offers enhanced search capabilities to help travelers save money.

The Groupon Getaways travel discovery app provides access to more than 25,000 travel deals and destinations worldwide.

Simon Goodall, vice president and general manager of Groupon Getaways said, “Whether they know exactly where and when they want to go or they’re just looking for great travel ideas, the new Getaways travel discovery app makes it easier than ever for users to find the best options and book the perfect trip.” He added that Groupon Inc (NASDAQ;GRPN) used its extensive mobile expertise to  create a user experience that fits the needs of every traveler.

Last month, Groupon Inc (NASDAQ:GRPN) reported better than expected quarterly earnings. The company posted non-GAAP earnings of $0.03 per share on $757.1 million in revenue compared with the one cent per share on $749 million in revenue estimated by Wall Street analysts.

Last week, the daily deals company demonstratedthat its business is growing during its analyst day.
