Groupon Inc (NASDAQ:GRPN) unveiled its “Taste of Groupon” recently, which is a food-focused collection including the top restaurants across the United States and Canada. A collection of the finest restaurants will satiate the cravings of delicacies ranging from the best tapas outside Spain to the finest cut of prime rib.
Groupon gives it a philanthropic feel
For giving it a philanthropic cut, the company has decided to give one meal to Feeding America for every food and drink Groupon purchased in the United States.
According to Julie Szudarek, SVP of Groupon Local, every town irrespective of size has a slew of restaurants, and “Taste of Groupon is the latest example of how we’re spotlighting these great businesses, connecting them with our huge audience and driving additional traffic through their doors.”
Additionally, the company is hosting a photo contest on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Participants need to share the picture of their favorite dish at a restaurant, and they can win $100 in Groupon credits to spend during the Taste of Groupon. The coupon company has also marked the top restaurants across the nation, based on the purchasing trends of customers.

Some of the top restaurants in the collection include: Michelin-starred Aquavit in New York; TLC’s “Cake Boss” star Carlo’s Bakery in North Jersey; The Gorbals in Los Angeles, which serves the food of Ilan Hall; Rick Bayless’ Frontera Grill in Chicago; Sala Thai in Washington, D.C.; Michelin-starred Valentino in Santa Monica; CY Steak in Denver; and RumFish Grill in Tampa, which allows diners to dive in a gigantic tank with exotic fish
Some the conclusions drawn include: Cincinnati eats the most number of meals in categories such as burgers, sausages and steak. Westchester, New York prefers Italian restaurants more than any other part in the country. Las Vegas is the drinking capital of the United States, and Phoenix is on the top in consumption of smoothies and chocolate shakes.
Last week, Groupon also launched Pages, a portal where more than 7 million new listings for merchants have been created. It makes the company the first place to offer not only ratings, but also tips, money-saving opportunities, and other useful information for local businesses in the United States.
