Sony Corp unveiled two new wearable devices—the SmartWatch 3 and SmartBand Talk, which will be showcased during the IFA consumer electronics trade show in Berlin, Germany starting on September 5.
During a press conference prior to the opening of the IFA trade show, Kazuo Hirai, president and CEO of Sony Corp said, “Each of our latest Sony products seeks to do more than just deliver new functionality, but actually change the way you interact with technology, and the way it integrates into your life.”
Hirai emphasized that the Sony’s management seek not only to meet the needs of consumers but to move them emotionally and elevate their experience to new heights through the company’s Kando-inspiring technologies.
Aside from the two new wearable devices, Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) (TYO:6758) also announced its other latest smartphones and product lineup for Europe.
SmartWatch 3
According to Sony Corp, the SmartWatch 3 is powered by Android Wear from Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) with a built-in GPS and 4GB storage. The wearable device comes with different sensors.
According to the company, users can use the SmartWatch 3 in combination with compatible smartphones, tablets and dedicated apps to record data from their daily activities such as the number of their movements and sleep patterns through Lifelog app.
The SmartWatch 3 allows users to continue to enjoy communication or entertainment remotely even if they are away from their smartphone.
SmartBand Talk
Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) (TYO:6758) said its SmartBand Talk sports a curved, always-on e-paper display to enable hands-free calls and voice command. The device offers an intuitive voice control to allow users to check their Lifelog status instantly
The company said the SmartWatch 3 and SmartBand Talk will be available in the market this autumn.
Sony to expand SmartWear products
Sony intends to expand the range of its SmartWear products and plans to roll out a Smart Tennis Sensor, which will be attached to the base of the user’s tennis racket to be able to visualize every shot on their smartphone. The company also has a prototype SmartEyeglass, transparent lens eyewear that superimposes useful information into a user’s field of view.
