The demand for iPhone 6 is strong. Many people claimed they cannot access Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s online store to purchase the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Even with availability issues plaguing the system, many models are already selling out.
Apple’s iPhone 6 is a huge hit
The carrier websites were the first to be affected since they always get a smaller number of phones to sell. AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) and Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) quoted shipping delays for the iPhone Plus for three weeks. Customers who purchase the phone will not receive it until October 7th. As of press time, the iPhone 6 is still available. According to an update from 9-to-5 Mac, all models of the 5.5 inch iPhone 6 Plus are expeced to ship within three to four weeks. Apple still has most iPhone 6 models available.
Supply issues appear to be a global problem. The iPhone 6 is pretty much sold out in Germany. Many of the carrier stores in the United Kingdom also sold out. There are also a few customers complaining about iPhone reservations, and Apple responded with the claim it could not connect to carriers for processing. This means that some orders may have to be completed on another date.
iPhone 6 sales numbers trump last year’s numbers
Ralph de la Vega, executive for iPhone 6, summed up the device’s successful sale numbers at a conference on Friday morning. He explained, ” [Overall phone sales are] better than last year and they’re better than the prior year [before that]. Every time there is a change in [iPhone] design, there’s an uptake, I think this design is particularly good.”
Apple seemed to outdo itself this year with two in-demand smartphones that sell out fast. Hopefully, Apple and iPhone 6 carriers will be able to keep phones in stock by the time the holiday season rolls around.
According to Re/Code, a representative for Apple noted overnight sales of the iPhone set a record, however the company declined to share that number. Apple also said response to both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus has been incredible.
