Galaxy Note 4 Vs. iPhone 6: Stage Set For September

Updated on

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) will soon send invites to media and industry for the Galaxy Note 4 launch event, reports The Korean Times. Well-placed sources told the Korean website that the electronics giant will launch its flagship phablet at a pre-IFA event in Berlin. September is going to be one of the biggest months for smartphone buyers. That’s because Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s much-awaited iPhone 6 is also likely to be unveiled in September.

Galaxy Note 4 up against two models of the iPhone 6

That means the Galaxy Note 4 will battle two models of the iPhone 6. Timing of the Galaxy Note 4 isn’t an accident. Sources told the Korean website that Samsung is rushing its device out the door. The company wants to launch its handset before the iPhone 6 in an attempt to steal some thunder from Apple’s device. It has always been Samsung’s strategy to launch a major device or get more aggressive with its marketing efforts around the launch of a new iPhone.

Falling profits and shrinking market share have put added pressure on Samsung to bring a new hit device. The Galaxy Note 4 is confirmed to sport a 5.7-inch QHD display, the same screen size as its predecessor. The Note 4 is expected to get 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage and 16MP main camera. Latest reports point to an ultraviolet sensor in the device that will protect users from skin cancer. If the UV sensor makes it to the Galaxy Note 4, the phablet could prove to be a game changer because no existing smartphone offers such a feature. There have also been reports that Samsung will launch a new variant of Note 4 with curved display. However, it’s more likely to be a niche product.

iPhone 6 to set a new benchmark in the smartphone industry

Apple is working hard to set a new benchmark in the smartphone industry with the iPhone 6. The company unveiled its new mobile operating system iOS 8 that brings several new features. It will have health & fitness tracking capabilities, better integration with Mac OS, HomeKit, and possibly a mobile payments service. However, the release date of the iPhone 6 is still unclear. Many reports point to a September 19 release, while latest rumors claim that the device will be launched on October 14.
