Microsoft Corporation Buys InMage

Updated on

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) announced on its blog today that it has acquired InMage, which it calls “an innovator in the emerging area of cloud-based business continuity.” The company said it has listed to customers who have said that it’s very important that they have continuity in their systems. Customers have indicated that they must be able to backup, access and recover all of their data very quickly if there is a system failure.

Microsoft pairs InMage with Azure

In May, Microsoft bought another company, GreenButton, with the goal of boosting Azure. With the InMage acquisition, the goal is no different. The company said with the addition of InMage, Azure will be enterprise customers’ “ideal destination for disaster recovery.” Details of the deal were not disclosed

Earlier this year, Forrester Research identified InMage as offering technology for disaster recovery as a service for Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HPQ) and Sungard. Then in May, InMage won aPenton Media Best of TechEd award. Microsoft said that customers across multiple industries already rely on the company’s technology to keep their businesses up and running.

Microsoft integrates InMage

The company added that it is now working on integrating InMage’s technology into Azure so that customers have an easy, cost-effective way to keep their businesses up and running using Azure’s massive scale. Microsoft had already said it was planning to enable data migration to Azure using Scout. Clearly the company is throwing a lot of money at Azure to turn it into a dominant force in the cloud services industry.

Acquiring yet another cloud company is certainly no surprise, as Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has made it clear that they are focusing on becoming the ultimate cloud solution provider for enterprise customers. This week Nadella sent a memo to employees saying that they need to reignite innovation at Microsoft. Nomura analysts predict that the company could eliminate some jobs as part of the organizational changes Nadella wrote about in his memo.
