Housing Announcement Makes MGIC Investment, Radian Group Investors Nervous

Tasman Metals Ltd (NYSEMKT:TAS), Cyclacel Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:CYCC) and Turtle Beach Corp (NASDAQ:HEAR) are the top Wall Street gainers this Friday. The losers are MGIC Investment Corp. (NYSE:MTG), Celladon Corp (NASDAQ:CLDN) and Radian Group Inc (NYSE:RDN).

Tasman Metals Climbs Early in the Day

Tasman Metals Ltd (NYSEMKT:TAS), a mineral exploration company, surged +10.18% midday today, which has proven a strong day for metals on the market. The firm has been in George Soros’ investment portfolio since the fourth quarter of 2011, when he purchased 1.67 million shares. Its price has climbed +19.77% YTD.

Cyclacel Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:CYCC) climbed +7.35%. A long-time Wilbur Ross pick, the biopharmaceutical company is down -16.44% this year, though it has rebounded +4.32% over the past month.

Its price climbing +6.2%, Turtle Beach Corp (NASDAQ:HEAR) takes the last spot on today’s list of midday gainers. Yesterday, the audio products maker announced that some of its shareholders had agreed to a voluntary extension of lock-up restrictions on the company’s stock. HEAR is a new Q1 buy for George Soros.

Housing Announcement Spells Trouble for MGIC, RDN

MGIC Investment Corp. (NYSE:MTG) posted a loss of -10.5% midday this Friday, falling below its 200-day moving average following an announcement yesterday from the Federal Housing Finance Agency. The private mortgage insurance company has been in John Paulson’s portfolio since the first quarter of 2013, and George Soros initiated a position in MTG in the first quarter of this year. Its price is down a slight -2.55% in 2014 but has climbed +35.5% over the past year.

The share price of Celladon Corp (NASDAQ:CLDN) fell -8.03% midday, bringing its total five-day losses to -21.14%. Despite a bit of a recent rough patch, the new Q1 Farallon Capital buy is up +57.33% year-to-date.

Radian Group Inc (NYSE:RDN) fell -4.95% midday today, giving it the third and final spot on today’s list of midday losers. Also the result of yesterday’s housing announcement, today’s dip puts Radian Group down -8.99% over the past 30 days. Paulson and Soros are also in the mix with this one.
