The back-to-school season is approaching and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) just kicked of the big shopping season with a new promotion. For a limited time, when shoppers purchase a new iPhone, iPad, or Mac, they will receive a $100 gift card to Apple Store. This offer is good on the following products: iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, iPhone 4S, iPad 4th generation, iPad Air, iPad Mini, and iPad Mini 2 with Retina Display.

Apple $100 Gift Card Offer

A closer look at Apple’s offer

The offer starts today and ends on September 9th 2014 so there is plenty of time to shop. This offer is good online and in-store. Last year’s gift cards were exclusively redeemable at the company’s app stores.

There will also be educational discounts for eligible shoppers including parents of students, faculty members, and staff. Discounts include $50 off MacBook, $100 to $200 off MacBook Pros, $50 to $100 off iMacs, and $200 to $300 off Mac Pros. Unfortunately, eduction discounts are not available for the iPhone. The good news is that these deals aren’t just limited to the United States, Apple is running separate deals in other markets including Canada, United Kingdom, and Germany.

Apple to ditch Aperture

Apple also plans to drop Aperture after the company releases OS X Yosemite later this year. Aperture is a professional photo editing application enabling users to modify pictures. The app’s users will transition to a new app called Photos, which was introduced at last month’s Worldwide Development Conference. The new app will debut sometime next year.

Photos will include many of the same advanced image editing features found on Aperture. A representative for Apple explained the introduction of the Photos app and iCloud photo library would allow users to store photos as well as access from anywhere. There will be no need for the Aperture app. It was added Apple will provide compatibility updates for Aperture to enable to run on Yosemite but there will be no more development updates.
