Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is wasting no time in pushing out new Surface models. Today it showed off the new Surface Pro 3 and said the new tablet will be available for tomorrow with a price tag starting at $799.

Surface Pro 3 features

The Next Web reports that the tablet sports a 12-inch screen with a resolution of 2160 x 1440. It has an aspect ratio of 3:2 and support for 4K displays. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is offering five different options for the Surface Pro 3. One features Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)’s Core i3 processor, while two feature the Core i5 and the other two feature the Core i7 processor.

The bottom two models each have 4 GB of RAM, with the i3 model featuring 64 GB of storage and the bottom i5 sporting 128 GB. The top three models have 256 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM. Prices for all five range from $799 up to $1,949.

Even though Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has increased the size of the Surface Pro3 to 12 inches, it still is just 9.1 millimeters thick and weighs only 800 grams. According to management, this tablet is the thinnest Core product that’s ever been made. The tablet also doesn’t have a fan. It also features the same multi-position kickstand the previous Surface models do. It’s also highly durable, according to PC Mag, which reports that management dropped the tablet from shoulder height to demonstrate its durability.

Extras for Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3

Those who want to purchase accessories to go with their Surface Pro 3 will have to dole out an additional $130 for the keyboard and $49 for the pen that’s available for the new tablet. The pen is one accessory most people will probably want because it’s such an important part of the tablet. Management emphasized that the pen for the Surface Pro 3 is definitely a pen and not a stylus, as it’s supposed to work like a pen and weighs as much as a pen.

Just a touch of the pen to the screen turns the Surface Pro 3 on and launches Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s note-taking app OneNote. Users can also click the pen to save what they’ve written right to OneDrive. When double-clicking the pen with the camera open, it takes a photo and allows users to write directly on it using the OneNote app.

Surface Pro 3 to eliminate need for two devices

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) CEO Satya Nadella said they have been aiming to create a tablet which “combines the best of a tablet and a laptop.”

It’s been only eight months since Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) showed off the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2. Along with that introduction, the company slashed the price of the Surface to $449 but kept the price of the Surface Pro at $899. With today’s announcement the company has trimmed another $100 off the price of the new Surface Pro 3.

Many had been expecting Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) to show off a mini version of the Surface today.
