Coatue and Tiger Global sell/reduce Amazon and TripAdvisor

Both Viking and Coatue reduced their positions in Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB). Viking cut their position in half and now holds 8.8 million shares, whereas Coatue sold a quarter and now owns 6.3 million shares. Feeling the heat from tech stocks, Coatue was slashing stakes in these companies across the board. Laffont made major cuts to positions in Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN), Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Tripadvisor Inc (NASDAQ:TRIP) and Priceline Group Inc (NASDAQ:PCLN) in Q1. Read Coatue’s quarterly letter to see the fund’s new defensive mode. On the other end, Tiger Global also sold several tech positions, the fund exited Amazon, TripAdvisor, Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX), Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO), Qihoo 360 Technology Co Ltd (NYSE:QIHU) and Groupon Inc (NASDAQ:GRPN) entirely in the last quarter.

Top five positions

At the end of the first quarter, Viking Global’s largest stakes were in Walgreen Company (NYSE:WAG), Time Warner Cable Inc (NYSE:TWC), Illumina, Inc. (NASDAQ:ILMN), Valeant Pharmaceuticals Intl Inc (NYSE:VRX) (TSE:VRX) and Twenty-First Century Fox Inc (NASDAQ:FOXA). Coatue Management’s largest positions were in Netflix, Baidu, CBS Corporation (NYSE:CBS), Facebook and Time Warner. Tiger Global’s largest positions were in Priceline.com, Twenty-First Century Fox, Carter’s, Inc. (NYSE:CRI), TransDigm Group Incorporated (NYSE:TDG) and Dollar General Corp. (NYSE:DG).

Viking buys Yahoo, Netflix and Zynga

Viking Global is among the few tiger cubs who are making marginal profits today. The fund bought over 1 million shares of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:REGN) and also added smaller stakes in Salix Pharmaceuticals, Ltd. (NASDAQ:SLXP) and Intercept Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ICPT). Viking was more enthusiastic about tech stocks than Coatue and Tiger Global, the fund bought new positions in Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO), Zynga Inc (NASDAQ:ZNGA), Qihoo 360 Technology Co Ltd (NYSE:QIHU) and Priceline Group Inc (NASDAQ:PCLN).

Coatue and Tiger Global buy few new positions

Neither fund initiated any big stakes in the last quarter. Coatue’s notable new stocks include 11.9 million shares of Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU), 1.3 million shares of Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ:ADBE) and 3.6 million shares of Ctrip.com International, Ltd. (ADR) (NASDAQ:CTRP). Tiger Global bought 3.9 million shares of Avis Budget Group Inc. (NASDAQ:CAR) and 1.6 million shares of Zillow Inc (NASDAQ:Z) in the last quarter.

Coatue adds to Yelp and Netflix

Netflix, which is now Coatue’s top position, was made larger by adding 1.5 million shares in the last quarter. The fund also boosted positions in LinkedIn Corp (NYSE:LNKD), Yelp Inc (NYSE:YELP) and Joy Global Inc. (NYSE:JOY).
