BlackBerry Ltd To Make BBM Even More Secure

Updated on

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) will launch a new service for BBM which would make it very difficult for the hackers to crack the code. BBM Protected will offer a random encryption key to every message in the conversation. This means that even the best of hackers will be able to see only one message if they crack a code, and it would take a considerably long time to hack the full conversation.

Although chat services like BBM and iMessage are secure, if one encryption code is broken, then the whole conversation will be revealed. The Canadian company showed off its new encryption feature at its BlackBerry Experience event in Washington.

BBM Protect only for corporate

BBM Protected, however, will be available only for corporate entities. It will be launched along with the enterprise suite in June. The new version will probably run on previous versions and the current version of the BlackBerry operating system. Android and iOS users will get access to the service by fall or early winter.

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB)’s BBM Protected is designed to add suite B compliant encryption along with the existing BBM “scrambling” encryption key.  The new chat app will be fully auditable for all sort of organizations as long as other users also have BBM Protected. The first demo of the chat app will be compatible with BBOS device powered by BBOS6+and Regulated BB10.2+ activations.

The four pillars of BlackBerry

The Canadian smartphone maker is trying to retain its customers by further strengthening its already strong points. John Sims, president of Global Enterprises Solutions for BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB). said in an interview with eWEEK that the company’s strength and its growth depend on four pillars.

The four pillars, according to Sims, are the device business (both the new and upcoming ones), the QNX operating system (which is a very strong segment of BlackBerry 10 devices), BlackBerry Messenger, and BlackBerry Enterprise Service.

Sims also said that BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB)’s encrypted message service will be at core of the company in the future and will play an important role in its operations as it supports Windows Phone, iOS and Android devices. He added that BBM will become safer in the future and will support logging to meet compliance requirements.
