Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) recently acknowledged the current glitch with iMessage and promised a fix soon with future software update. iPhone users who switched to Android smartphones discovered their text messages are trapped within the Apple cloud. This problem is noticed as soon as the switch is made. If the user kept their phone number, Apple’s messaging system recognizes the phone number as an iPhone.
Apple’s response to the glitch
The recent glitch only added to the problem and made a key remedy moot.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s first response to Re/Code to the glitch, “We recently fixed a server-side iMessage bug which was causing an issue for some users, and we have an additional bug fix in a future software update. For users still experiencing an issue, please contact AppleCare.”
One woman in California is seeking a class-action lawsuit against Apple. She claims that Apple’s message grab deprives former iPhone users from receiving the full value of their wireless service. The lawsuit also claims Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s actions go against state law regarding competition as well as interfere with other wireless services. The iOS maker declined to make a statement regarding the lawsuit.
Apple takes steps to alleviate the issue
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is very aware of the urgency of the issue and is taking steps to correct it. In the meantime, users will have to shut off iMessage on their phone and uncheck the phone number from other Apple devices. Then they can uncheck the phone number from other Apple devices that use iMessage right before making the switch to an Android device. However, even this does not guarantee a smooth transition.
In the past, the company has tried to remove users from the iMessage system after the users switched off their iPhones. This process is even spottier and the more recent bug case made the problem even worse as it left Apple’s support staff unable to use the standard methods for correcting the problem.
