Having unveiled its flagship smartphone in Barcelona at the World Mobile Congress just days ago, the Galaxy S5 is just over one month away from launch. Undoubtedly millions of people all over the world will want to get their hands on this premium handset. But the Korean firm has made a big and important announcement today that will seek to further entice early adopters.
Attractive app package
Samsung has stated that Galaxy S5 customers will benefit from free, long-term subscriptions and premium access to numerous applications when the device appears in the stores in April. The so-called ‘Galaxy Gifts’ bundle includes a collection of applications that will certainly sweeten the Galaxy deal for smartphone fans and will help to make the overall price tag look more attractive when Samsung finally releases it.
The apps included in the Galaxy Gifts bundle are one year of premium service with personal trainer app Run Keeper, a subscription to The Wall Street Journal which lasts half a year, a quarterly Premium LinkedIn account, three months of Evernote Premium service, and three months of Bitcasa 1TB storage. This is a pretty nifty pack of goodies, but there are several other offers available to early purchasers of the Galaxy S5.
It hasn’t been made clear how long these offers will be available for, and whether people that pick up a Galaxy S5 at a later date will have access to them, but what is certain is that those who get one on launch day are getting a pretty decent package. In total, the dollar value of the apps included in the Galaxy Gifts bundle has been totaled up to be worth $500; close to the likely value of the phone itself when it initially goes on sale.
Samsung Galaxy S5: Pre-order figures blooming
It is probably a little too early for such offers to seriously affect the number of pre-orders related to the Galaxy S5, but the smartphone is still faring pretty well in this department. In Britain, the major mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse has received 130 percent more pre-registrations for the Samsung Galaxy S5 than for its predecessor the S4. The retailer has gone on the record to state that based on its present figures, the Galaxy S5 could become a record breaking device before it is even available on the high street.
Additionally, the US-based T-Mobile has also reported that the Galaxy S5 has also garnered a great deal of interest on their site as well. The eagerly anticipated Samsung smartphone has attracted more than 100,000 pre-sale inquiries within 48 hours of going live on the T-Mobile site.
Clearly Samsung has already created some excellent early momentum with the Galaxy S5, and this latest deal should act as a catalyst for this process. Although the spec list for the Galaxy S5 – which comprises a 5.1-inch full HD display, a fingerprint scanner, a heart rate sensor, and Android 4.4 KitKat – didn’t generally blow observers away at the Mobile World Congress, it seems that the mobile buying public feels differently about the flagship Samsung device.
