Three brothers are accused of stealing BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) smartphones and other electronic devices which they would then sell online.
BlackBerry theft solved
Investigators speculate the devices were stolen directly from BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB). The names of the accused men are Ricky, Ketan, and Ajay Champaneria. The men have been charged with theft and possession of stolen items. The investigation officially started late last year after suspicious activity prompted police attention
The stolen property was found in a home located inside the Fenwick Court residence, close to Fischer-Hallman Road and Victoria Street. Inside the home, police found $33,000 worth of gadgets. Police representative Olaf Henzel explained, “Police seized approximately 75 BlackBerrys, several tablets, several laptop computers and a number of batteries and BlackBerry accessories. Police became aware of information relating to items that were potentially stolen and offered for sale on Kijiji.”
Unreleased BlackBerry device makes appearance
In other BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) news, years ago the Canadian tech company was rumored to release a streaming box much like Apple TV which was never launched. This box recently surfaced on CrackBerry forums thanks to a user who identified himself as issac708. He claimed to have purchased 10 BlackBerry Cyclones (the codename for the device) from a RIM liquidator.
According to Engadget, “Half of those units came with a remote control, and some of them can actually connect to the internet via WiFi as well as stream videos to a TV using HDMI connection. One of the images he posted even shows the box’s user interface with the YouTube and Slacker apps in full view, though Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX), which is also supposed to be part of Cyclone’s repertoire, is nowhere to be seen. While the device’s fate is likely up in the air (if it hasn’t been scrapped yet) due to the company’s ongoing struggles, the pictures after the break should give you an idea of how it looks.”
The past few years have been a struggle for BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB). The company formerly known as Research In Motion has been struggling to make sales in a market that’s dominated by sophisticated technologies.
