Nexus 8 Tablet Might Launch In April [REPORT]

Updated on

Google has some big plans for the Nexus tablet lineup. According to the latest report, Google is planning to launch an 8-inch tablet in April, dubbed the Nexus 8, which will be sold alongside Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets.

Google has been developing an 8-inch tablet to avoid price competition in the 7-inch segment for launch at the end of April with initial shipments of two million units, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

Report comes from DigiTimes

The report comes from the often hit-and-miss DigiTimes, citing sources from its Taiwan-based supply chain sources. However, this isn’t the first time that we’ve heard rumors of a Nexus 8 in the works.

According to DigiTimes sources, just like the Nexus 7, Google will continue the partnership with Asus on the new Nexus 8. The tablet will initially have a shipment target of two million units.

Would Nexus 7 sell alongside Nexus 8?

What’s not clear right now is if will Google continue to sell Nexus 7 too along with Nexus 8. Because then it would make a difference of just an inch between both the tablet variants. It might be possible that Google is thinking to move away from the already crowded 7-inch tablet market, and give some strong (and more affordable) competition to Apple’s iPad Mini which comes with 7.9-inch screen.

Of course, like always, we should take such rumors with a grain of salt. If the report is really true, then we might see the official announcement soon, as April is not far away.
