Blue Ridge Buys Apple Inc. (AAPL), Marathon Petroleum Corp (MPC)

The latest 13F filing by Blue Ridge reveals an aggregate portfolio worth $9.7 billion as of December 31, 2013. This is up from the end-September value of $8.36 billion.

Endo Health tops Blue Ridge’s portfolio holdings

As of the end December, Blue Ridge’s biggest holding as a percentage of portfolio value was  Endo Health Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:ENDP) Com STK at 5.56%. The investment advisor owns 8 million shares of Endo Health Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:ENDP) that are currently valued at $539.68 million. During the last quarter, Blue Ridge added 1 million shares of the specialty healthcare solutions company.

The second-largest holding was Charter Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:CHTR) of which Blue Ridge owns 2,835,000 shares that are currently valued at $387.71 million representing 3.99% of its total portfolio. The investment management firm added 645,000 shares of Charter Communications during the quarter ended December 31, 2013.

The investment advisor’s third largest holding was Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (NYSE:TMO) in which it owns 3,425,000 shares valuing $381.37 million, constituting 3.93% of its overall portfolio.

Blue Ridge’s fifth largest holding was Liberty Global Inc. where it owns 4,155,000 shares that are currently valued at $369.79 million representing 3.81% of its total portfolio.

Blue Ridge new positions

During the quarter, the investment management firm purchased 2,790,000 shares of Marathon Petroleum Corp (NYSE:MPC) Common Stock for $255.92 million, representing 2.64% of its overall portfolio. Actavis Inc was the second major new addition, of which Blue Ridge purchased 1,310,000 shares valued $220.08 million.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) was another new addition of Blue Ridge. The investment advisor purchased 320,000 shares of the information technology major valued $179.52 million constituting 1.85% of its overall portfolio.

Blue Ridge reduced positions

During the quarter, the investment management firm fully sold its 913,000 shares of Polo Ralph Lauren Corp (NYSE:RL) Blue Ridge also fully sold its 3,085,000 shares of the health care services company, Tenet Healthcare Corp (NYSE:THC) during the quarter.

During the quarter, Blue Ridge also fully divested its position in Range Resources Corp. (NYSE:RRC) by selling 1,599,000 shares.

Blue Ridge also fully sold off its 349,000 shares in the Internet television network company, Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) In the preceding quarter, Blue Ridge’s holding in Netflix represented 1.29% of its overall portfolio.
