It’s that time of the year again. Hedge fund managers far and wide are filing their quarterly holdings reports, revealing what they’ve been up to as of late. It’s a lot of information to sift through, so we’ve gone ahead and focused on the movements of la crème de la crème on Wall Street, taking a look at where billionaire investors like Warren Buffett, George Soros, David Einhorn and Carl Icahn placed their chips in Q3 2013.
Hedge fund holdings in tech companies
Tech continues to be a clear favorite among investors, with Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), Priceline.com Inc (NASDAQ:PCLN) and Qualcomm, Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) catching the eye of several. Finance is, unsurprisingly, also a biggie, with a number of billionaires betting on American International Group Inc (NYSE:AIG), Citigroup Inc (NYSE:C) and Wells Fargo & Co (NYSE:WFC). A few have jumped onto the Netflix bandwagon – a rising star in the market that continues to outperform. And a number of long-standing market staples continue to be preferred picks, including The Coca-Cola Company (NYSE:KO), General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) and International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM).
Of course, these billionaires have many more tricks up their sleeves (and much more pull in the companies they’re picking). Moreover, there’s a 45-day time lag in the mix to keep in mind as well.
That being said, it’s worth taking a look at where the smart money’s going regardless. Case in point: if you’d invested in these 30 stocks in Q4 (as tracked by the iBillionaire Index), your performance would have been +3.16%, as opposed to +2.41% with the S&P 500.
