Nokia Smartphones To Hit Market In 2014

Updated on

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (HEL:NOK1V) has been working on a number of smartphones that may hit the markets in 2014. Despite its acquisition by Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT), the Finnish mobile phone maker is trying to regain ground in a market crowded with Android and iOS devices. Here are the Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (HEL:NOK1V)’s six big offerings in 2014:

1- Nokia Lumia 929

The Lumia 929 came into the spotlight in November. This 5-inch smartphone is rumored to feature a full HD display, 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM, Gorilla glass, Adreno 330 GPU and 20MP camera with PureView technology. The device is expected to have 32GB of memory, a 2510mAh battery, and will be available in black and white colors.

2- Nokia Goldfinger

The Goldfinger is expected to come with the revamped Windows Phone 8.1. According to The Verge, Goldfinger will come with an innovative 3D touch technology. The hardware sensors can detect interactions even off-the-glass. So, you can operate the device with a hand gesture without touching the screen.

3- Nokia Spinel

Spinel recently caught the eye of the rumor mill, and experts say “Spinel” is the code name of the Asha 230. It will have a metal casing like Lumia 925. At this point, little is known about this smartphone’s specs and release date.

4- Nokia Moneypenny

It’s quite surprising that Moneypenny and Goldfinger both names have been picked from the James Bond movie series. Moneypenny is expected to sport Windows Phone 8.1 with dual-SIM slots. There have also been reports that Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (HEL:NOK1V) may launch two versions of Moneypenny for different markets. A leaked video of Moneypenny shows the device will support 4G LTE network. It may be the first smartphone to come with Windows Phone 8.1 OS.

5- Nokia Lumia 1820

Lumia 1820 will be a hard-core camera-centric device that may replace Lumia 1020. The device is rumored to be announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Lumia 1820 will have a metal unibody chassis with Lytro-style camera.

6- Nokia Normandy

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (HEL:NOK1V) has long been rumored to be working on an Android smartphone. Finally, the company may launch an Android smartphone named Normandy this year. However, the Finnish company’s handset business is in Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s hands now. So, the software giant may ditch the plan of an Android device.

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (HEL:NOK1V) shares jumped 0.12% to $8.04 at 10:23 AM EST.
