Motorola Mobility, the wholly owned subsidiary of Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) that makes Android smartphones will start selling its Moto X in the United Kingdom next month.
According to ZDNet, consumers will be able to purchase the Moto X at Phones4u, Carphone Warehouse, Os, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) and Techdata for £380 without carrier contract or £25 with contract starting February 1. Consumers will only be able to buy the white model of the Moto X at Phones 4u over the next three months.
Customization not available during U.K. launching
Motorola Mobility allows consumers to choose the color and design of their own Moto X from hundreds of color combinations using its customization tool, Moto Maker. However, this feature will not be available during the launching of the Moto X in United Kingdom, which removes its major distinction or uniqueness from all the other available smartphones in the market.
The Moto X is the first smartphone designed, engineered, and assembled in the United States. It sports a 4.7 inch Amoled HD screen with 720 p display and integrated with Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset from QUALCOMM, Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM). It has different sensors including accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer, temperature.
The battery life of the Moto X lasts all day (576 hours standby and 13 hours talk time). Moto X is powered by Android ‘Kit Kat’ 4.4 operating system. The Moto X is available in 16GB or 32GB models. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is also providing free 50GB of storage on Google Drive for two years to those who will purchase the smartphone.
Motorola cuts Moto X price to $399 in the U.S.
Early this month, Motorola Mobility reduced the price of the Moto X in the United States from $550 to $399 with a carrier contract as the company stepped up its competition in the high-end smartphone market.
During the third quarter, last year, Strategy Analytics estimated that the company sold approximately 500,000 Moto X. The smartphone was launched in the United States last August. Iqbal Arshad, one of the top engineers of Motorola Mobility, previously rejected criticisms that Moto X was integrated with last year’s technology. He emphasized that the device was designed for smart computing.
