Midday Movers: Twitter Inc (TWTR) Visa Inc (V), Netflix, Inc. (NFLX)

Monday, January 13, 2014 has been a busy day as major U.S. financial markets get back into the swing of things after the holidays. All U.S. stock indices are down today, however, as the hangover from the poor jobs report Friday is still lingering. Political concerns over another looming budget crisis in Congress are also adding to the deteriorating market sentiment.

Major Indices

The Dow Jones Industrial Average is down 140.19 points at 16,296.86 as of 2:47 PM ET.

The S&P 500 had dropped 18.38 points to 1838.99, and the NASDAQ had shed 48.57 points to fall to 4126.10 as of 2:47 PM ET.

Netflix — Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) was gaining ground today as actress Robin Wright won a Golden Globe for her work in the Netflix original production House of Cards. the company also put out a statement today that its original series Lilyhammer was returning for a third season. The stock is up over $5 in active trading today.

Ford — Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) is up fractionally today on the introduction of its new F-150 pickup truck at the all-new Detroit Auto Show.

Twitter — Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) is up 1.25% in active afternoon trading on the NYSE, following an upgrade and increased target price from Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS). The GS analysts suggest increased innovation by the company will lead to increased profits sooner than many expect.

Visa — Visa Inc (NYSE:V) started the day green on news of an upgrade from Neutral to Buy from Citi Research, but the plunging general market indices today have taken the bellweather banking stock down with them.

Sodastream International — Sodastream International Ltd (NASDAQ:SODA) has lost almost a quarter of its market cap today after delivering a poor earnings report and reducing forward guidance.

Dendreon — Highly volatile biotech concern Dendreon Corporation (NASDAQ:DNDN) is having a good day today, up almost 9% on positive earnings news despite the negative market backdrop.
