Updated on

WhatsApp is taking the lead in mobile messaging! Last October, the popular messaging application reached 350 million active users a month. Two months ahead, and now the company surpassed the 400 million monthly user mark. This is a huge upgrade with 50 million new users within a two month period.

The WhatsApp difference

A recent post on the WhatsApp blog gives a report on the app’s journey. Jan Koum explained that he and his friend Brian wanted to create a messaging service that would focus on the best user experience. They wanted to make an instant messenger that was fast and reliable without advertisements.

The blog added, “Today, we’re proud to announce that because of you, WhatsApp has reached a milestone that no other mobile messaging service has achieved: 400 million monthly active users, with 100 million active users added in the last four months alone. This isn’t a count of people who just registered for WhatsApp – it’s the number of people who are actively using the service every single month.”

How WhatsApp helps users

WhatsApp has made a difference in the lives of many people. Jan’s blog post mentioned a few notable stories including a New Zealand woman who moved to South Africa to complete a PhD, then met the man of her dreams. Thanks to WhatsApp, she was able to stay in contact with him. Then there was the story of a British woman who runs a charity based in Uganda. Her team utilizes the WhatsApp application for sharing videos, photographs, and stories of the kids they help.

This mobile application is an integral part of modern technology. Many individuals and businesses find this application as a useful communication tool. This is a cross-platform app that is available on iOS, Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, and Nokia. This application allows users to share messages instantly without using up SMS messaging fees.
