Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA) Shows Off Virtual Supercar In Gran Turismo 6

Updated on

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s Model S is a pretty fancy car, but it’s got nothing on the Tesla vehicle in the new Gran Turismo 6 game, which was released over the weekend for the PlayStation 3. The design for the virtual supercar was submitted by Tesla and sports the automaker’s logo. It also competes in races against some of the world’s other well-known supercar brands.

Tesla’s virtual car is sleek, stylish

Jeff Cobb of Hybrid Cars reports that at least 17 different automakers submitted digital designs for supercars for the popular racing game franchise.. Polyphony Digital ran promotions of the game and shows the rendering of the sleek supercar designed by Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA). Needless to say, it looks much more aggressive than the Model S sedan.

Tesla’s digital car competes with vehicles by Mercedez-Benz, SRT, Zagato, Bertone, Aston Martin and others. Of course we’re assuming that Tesla’s vehicle is meant to represent an electric car, while the vehicles designed by the others have traditional internal combustion engines.

Will Tesla’s supercar become a reality?

According to Cobb, Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has suggested that it wants to build some kind of supercar after it builds the Model E mass market vehicle. We haven’t seen any signs that the supercar may actually be released, but it’s clear that the automaker has more important things to keep in mind. Much of the company’s stock price is based on the assumption that the mass market electric vehicle will be a success, so Tesla will really have to focus on making that car everything the masses want.

And then there is the Model X crossover vehicle, which was unveiled in a showroom  in Palo Alto, Calif. recently. That vehicle won’t start shipping until next year. It features the impressive gull-wing doors as promised, which are designed to allow the doors of the crossover vehicle to open even in tighter parking spaces.
