Market & Economic Update

U.S. markets at record high – stock on the U.S. exchanges were slightly up on Tuesday as investors did light trades ahead of the Christmas holiday. The S&P 500 and Dow continued to surge for the fifth consecutive session. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 62.94 points or 0.39% to finish at 16,357.55, a record closing high. The S&P 500 gained 5.33 points or 0.29%, to end at 1,833.32.

European market steady – shares on the European stock exchange were steady on Tuesday after four sessions of active trade. FTSE 100 index declined 0.03%, France’s CAC 40 was flat, and Spain’s IBEX was up 0.05%.

Nikkei at six year high – The Nikkei surged to mark a six year high on Thursday followed by buying from retail investors as tax-free investment accounts, which are aimed at moving Japanese savings into stocks, showed impressive performance. The Nikkei surged 1% to 16,174.44, its highest since November 2007, while the broader Topix index was up 1.7% at 1,279.34.

Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO)

Yahoo shares could trade actively in the market as it touched its 52-week high on Tuesday. In December, the stock added more than 10%, and gained around 0.20% to close at $40.85 on Tuesday. However, the value of Yahoo mostly depends upon its 24% stake in Alibaba.

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) shares gained 5.48% on Tuesday after the company got a 5 star rating from the NHTSA for its Model S for the year 2014. Shares closed at $151.41 on Tuesday. The electric car maker plans to focus on the first tier cities of China rather than on the second tier cities.

DS Healthcare Group Inc (NASDAQ:DSKX)

Shares of DS Healthcare Group Inc (NASDAQ:DSKX) dropped 3.28% to close at $2.30 on Tuesday. The company announced the private placement of $2.42 million. The securities purchase agreement contains customary representations and warranties and covenants of the company. The proceeds would be used by the company for the working capital purposes.

Time Warner Cable Inc (NYSE:TWC)

Shares of Time Warner Cable  Inc (TWC) surged 1.16% to close at $134.04 on Tuesday. Both Time Warner and Viacom continued their multiyear distribution agreements. The current agreement will expire by the end of this year. Under the agreement, Time Warner will offer Epix, the pay TV movie channel owned by Viacom to the subscribers.

CalAmp (NASDAQ:CAMP)

CalAmp shares shed 7% on Tuesday to close at $25.63 following a weak outlook issued by the company for the fourth quarter. First Analysis analysts have downgraded the stock from Overweight to EqualWeight.
