iPhone 6 Release Date, Latest Rumors

Updated on

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s upcoming device iPhone 6 is slated to go for sale in 2014. But the rumor mill has been churning out one rumor after another since the iPhone 5S and 5C debuted. There have been reports of a curved display, an edge-to-edge screen, a larger display and many other things. As for the release date of the iPhone 6, each analyst has a different view. A large part of these rumors come through the supply chain sources, so nobody can deny their validity, at least until the iPhone 6 hits the stores. So, let’s have a look at what latest rumors are about the iPhone 6.

iPhone 6 specs

The iPhone 6 is rumored to feature a scratch-proof sapphire screen that is tougher than concrete. Though Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been using sapphire crystal in smaller components of iPhones such as camera glass, there is a possibility that the company may use sapphire for the entire screen. That’s because the Cupertino-based company recently invested in GT Advanced Technologies to ramp up the production of sapphire crystal.

The next iPhone is likely to retain some features of the iPhone 5S such as M7 graphics and the fingerprint sensor. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been awarded a patent on a refocusable camera. It will allow users to adjust the focus of an image even after it has been captured. Latin Post reported that the iPhone 6 could feature a tough liquidmetal case. Among other things, the iPhone 6 is rumored to feature an edge-to-edge screen with a view-lock. This kind of screen will allow users to take video footage at any angle.

There have been a lot of rumors and concept designs about the screen size. While some say the iPhone 6 will sport a larger screen, somewhere between 4.8-inch and 5.7-inch to compete with Android phablets that are gaining popularity. But others say the next iPhone is likely to come in two builds, one with 4-inch screen and another with 4.8-inch. Rumor mills also suggest that the iPhone 6 would come with a revolutionary 3D screen. Users don’t have to keep their head fixed to see the 3D version. The display itself can adjust to the viewer.

iPhone 6 release date

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iPhone 5S is beating every other smartphone in the market. According to Apple Insider, it was the biggest selling smartphone in November. The iPhone 5S helped Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) increase its market share in China from 3% in September to 12% in October. The deal with China Mobile is likely to boost the iPhone sales further. These factors have alleviated pressure on Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) to rush the launch of iPhone 6.

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster expects the iPhone 6 to be launched at the WWDC in June 2014. He believes Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) shares have lagged for a long time now due to the lack of a revolutionary product. And the iPhone 6 is going to be nothing less than revolutionary. An early launch of the iPhone 6 would help the tech giant regain confidence of its fans and investors. In contrast, Citi Research thinks that the company is likely to launch the iPhone 6 before September. Because Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is reportedly working on a larger 12.9-inch iPad which could be released in June.

iPhone 6 competitors

The success of the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 has heightened the expectations from the Korean company’s next flagship device.

Another smartphone that could challenge the iPhone 6 is the successor of HTC One. Titled HTC M8, the device is expected to feature an aluminum chassis, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, 4GB RAM, Glonass, HTC Zoe 2, 32mAh battery and BoomSound.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) shares rose 0.48% in pre-market trading to $563.40.
