Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been granted a patent that hints at an entirely different camera in its upcoming devices including the iPhone 6. According to a report from 9To5 Mac, Apple was granted a patent for a light field camera, which allows people to refocus their shots after they have been taken.
The technology would capture the light field instead of a single 2D capture of the moment. The technology would ensure that the photo is not a fixed shot, and that a user could select the part of the picture that needs to be completely refocused. This technology is used in Lytro Light Field cameras.
Other recent patent granted to Apple
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) was recently awarded a patent for facial recognition technology, which indicates that the upcoming iPhone 6 may have a feature using face recognition and detection. The facial recognition technology would unlock the phone after detecting the face of the user. The Samsung Galaxy has already sported the facial recognition feature in the past.
The facial recognition patent includes three unique features: “the facial detection that identifies faces irrespective of the background, the actual facial recognition that identifies authorized and select faces, and the application that allows Apple to act on the facial data it gathers – either to lock out or allow phone access.”
Expected specs of iPhone 6
The iPhone 6 is rumored to be released by mid-2014, and since the launch of the iPhone 5S, rumors have been making the rounds around the web, suggesting what specifications the iPhone 6 could have. Some of the recent reports suggest that the upcoming device may be equipped with a full-screen touch I.D. display and trackpad.

There are rumors that the iPhone 6 will have a bigger Retina display screen. As per the reports, Apple is making efforts to bring in a display of 4.7 inches and one of 5.5 inches. Also, there are speculations saying Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) would not sport gorilla glass; instead, it would use scratch-resistant sapphire coating.
Furthermore, the new iPhone 6 is expected to have a touch wraparound screen with extended battery life and enhanced plenoptic camera. The iPhone maker could also bring in some changes in Siri as it acquired PrimeSense technology recently.
