Ford Motor Company (F) Unveils New Mustang

Updated on

Earlier today, Ford Motor Co. (F) unveiled the sixth generation of the Mustang in six cities across four continents. Launch events were held in New York, Los Angeles, Barcelona, Shanghai and Sydney in addition to Ford’s hometown of Dearborn, Mich.

The new Mustang retains characteristic features like the long sculpted hood and short rear deck. Its additional elements include a lower roof, wider rear fenders and track, and a steeply sloped windshield and rear glass. The multilayer insulated cloth top of the new car facilitates a quieter cabin and can be lowered in half the time compared to the earlier version.

Moreover, it offers various technological enhancements such as Intelligent Access with push-button start, SYNC and MyKey, along with optional Track Apps, MyColor gauges and new Shaker Pro audio system. It also provides excellent dynamics with a new perimeter subframe at the front suspension system, an integral-link independent rear suspension and a double-ball-joint front MacPherson strut brake system.

The new Mustang comes with three engine options – V6, V8 and EcoBoost. The least expensive of the three, the 3.7-liter V6, supports 300 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque.

The Mustang GT with the 5.0-liter V8 engine offers enhanced valvetrain and cylinder heads, with over 420 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque along with higher fuel efficiency and lower emissions. The 2.3-liter Mustang EcoBoost engine has more than 305 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft. of torque, as well as higher fuel efficiency on the back of direct injection, variable cam timing and turbocharging.

The Mustang will complete 50 years on Apr 17, 2014. Ford has sold over 9 million Mustang cars since its launch in 1964. The company will now introduce the iconic car to various key markets in Europe and Asia.
