CAVIE, the Center for the Advancement of Value Investing Education, is offering a Seminar on Value Investing and the Search for Value next July 14-18 in Toronto. The five-day seminar will be led by Professor George Athanassakos. Athanassakos is a Professor of Finance and the Ben Graham Chair in Value Investing at the Richard Ivey School of Business, The University of Western Ontario.
The seminar is designed for professional investors as well as individual investors, students or anyone with a basic finance background who is interested in obtaining a thorough grounding in the subject of value investing.
Seminar on Value Investing and the Search for Value 2014
The seminar is designed to provide experienced investors with an introduction to the underlying principles of value investing and a set of guidelines to apply to your own investing.
Details to be discussed in the seminar include the search for value process, how to find underpriced securities and why such underpricing exists in the financial markets, how to determine the intrinsic value of a stock, alternative methods for creating a portfolio to control risk without restrictions in investment returns.
Seminar attendees will also learn about the important concept of “margin of safety”. Professor Athanassakos will show you how to translate market and intrinsic value estimates into specific portfolio choices and minimize risk using methods that go beyond diversification.
CAVIE
CAVIE was founded in 2008, and has a primary mission of educating future business leaders and investors in value investing. That is, value investing as the investment style first made popular by Benjamin Graham in the early 1930’s. The main goal of CAVIE is to preserve and continue to research into the valuation and stock selection methodologies of value investing icons such as Benjamin Graham, Warren Buffett, Irving Kahn, Walter Schloss, Seth Klarman, Michael Price, Charles Brandes and Peter Drucker.
Professor George Athanassakos
Professor George Athanassakos is a tenured Professor of Finance and the Ben Graham Chair in Value Investing at the Richard Ivey School of Business, The University of Western Ontario. He is ranked among the top 10 economics researchers in Canada and among the top 10 Canadian professors. Professor Athanassakos has also received dozens of teaching awards.
His areas of research interest include the Canadian capital markets, stock and bond market anomalies as well as bond and equity valuation approaches both from a traditional valuation and value investing point of view.
Professor Athanassakos is the author of dozens of academic research papers and has written two well-received books, Derivatives Fundamentals and Equity Valuation.
Committed to the importance of value investing, Professor Athanassakos has given valuation seminars to Canadian and U.S. valuator societies, and has made popular presentations in Australia, Chile, Colombia, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Finland, Greece, Italy and throughout the United Kingdom.
