Summarized below are some of the latest rumors concerning display and expected exciting new features.

Many rumors surrounding the display

The iPhone 6 would apparently be bigger than the iPhone 5S. After keeping the screen size of the iPhone at 4 inches for the iPhone 5S, Apple may have deviated from the trend and is believed to be testing bigger screens for the next generations, which are expected to be between 4.5 inches and 6 inches. Though the company was reluctant for a couple of years in increasing the screen size, even when phone makers like Samsung flooded the market with a bigger display and low-priced phones, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) may have finally decided to break from its past trends and match its rivals.

iPhone 6 Suspense: Release Date, Specs, New Features

A few days back, a report from MacRumors suggested that Apple is keen to offer a 4.8-inch Retina+IGZO screen made by Sharp. The advanced screen would give a thinner, brighter and better resolution.

Bloomberg has stated interesting upcoming features of the iPhone 6, suggesting that the Apple is testing two new iPhones, which would feature a curved display and new touchscreen technology that can detect the level of pressure. The report adds that phones will have a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch display and would be launched around October 2014.

One of the latest patents indicates that the next iPhone 6 might sport a wraparound AMOLED screen which would resemble the fourth generation iPod Nano. The patent suggests that the screen can be unrolled or unfolded. Facial recognition, gesture control and the layering of screens to create a 3D display were also described in the patent.

The wraparound technology does not seem to be hands-on as a touch screen would be on the sides of the phone, which would make it impossible for a user to hold the phone in hand without pressing any of the side buttons. However, if the innovative Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has thought about such a design, then they might be working to bring a solution.

Expected exciting features

During the launch of the iPhone 5S, a new patent came into light related to a fingerprint sensor that included Near Field Communication technology, which would assist in functions like wireless payment, data transfers, media playback and more. However, Apple did not reveal anything about the chip. It can be expected that this new NFC chip powers the iPhone 6.

It is highly anticipated that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) would use sonar in place of infrared sensors in its next iPhone. A report from AppleInsider states that the new technology would help the phone to detect where it is, which could be helpful by giving an alert to a user about an incoming object or detecting the phone if it is being held to the user’s ear.

An exciting feature would be a “smart bezel” in the phone, as appeared in the actual patent filed by Apple. The purpose of a smart bezel would be to hold the flashing buttons and symbols that would integrate with on-screen action. The patent dictates that the primary display would show visual content to a user, and the secondary display could work as a guide which will allow the user to give inputs in the device.

Back in February, an application of Apple’s patent surfaced, detailing a technology through which the iPhone would keep changing its modes according to the user’s needs.

Eye tracking technology has become the hottest feature in smartphones, and Apple is expected to integrate this technology in its upcoming iPhone 6. There are possibilities that Apple would bring in some sort of motion technology in its next iPhone. Other expected features would be advanced Bluetooth, wireless technology, sapphire crystal and enhanced storage.

Other expected features

In the build-up to the iPhone 5S launch, analysts predicted the company would boost the storage of the device to 128GB, up from the top-end 64GB handset. That speculation would now carry over to the iPhone 6, which would tie in with the recent addition of a 128GB iPad model.

It is expected that the iPhone maker will launch its next flagship in September 2014, however, the possibility of the phone coming as soon as May/June cannot be ignored.

The camera has become a major point of differentiation in smartphones, and Apple would reportedly bake a new Lytro-style camera into its upcoming device. The patent revealed that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) succeeded in developing a technology allows “light-field” photographs with a much smaller lens, suggesting that the pictures could be refocused after clicking it.  The Lytro-style technology has been used by other devices, but Apple would be the first one to bring the technology into smartphones and tablets.

Apple is expected to launch iOS8 along with the iPhone 6, and it is expected to be more or less similar, given the recent launch of iOS7.

Device would be called iPhone 6 or?

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been following its trend of giving iPhone similar names by just changing the number according to their release number. However, after the success of the iPad Air, which was largely known as the iPad 2, the onlookers are expecting Apple to take forward its ‘Air range and name the iPhone 6 the iPhone Air.

Designer Peter Zigich has revealed some concept designs of iPhones. The design includes one iPhone mini, an iPhone 6 and an iPhablet. There are pictures by other designers showing the iPhone with a wraparound screen and edge-to-edge screen, along with a trackpad-like home button.

As of now, there are no official pictures of the iPhone 6, but the web is inundated with imaginary snaps of it.  There is a plethora of rumored specifications and features from some of the biggest news websites and daily. However, some specifications look fair enough to get materialized into iPhone 6, while others are not so convincing.
