Apple Inc. (AAPL) No Longer Employs Sam Sung

Updated on

If you think the headline is a typo and this story is about Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) using components made by Samsung, then you’re dead wrong. No, apparently the company used to have an employee with the name Sam Sung. And according to CNBC’s Eli Langer (via Business Insider), he no longer works at the Apple retail store he was once employed at.

Sam Sung quits Apple

Sung was once a specialist at a Vancouver Apple retail store. However, he left several months ago. His business card went viral after someone who went to the store noticed the irony behind his name. Then CNBC called the number on his business card this week to confirm that he had left. That went through to Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Pacific Center, who told them that he was no longer employed by Apple.

The person said he just “decided to move on” and “may have wanted to do something else.” According to Sung’s profile on LinkedIn, he had worked at Apple since September of last year. Apparently a reporter from Huffington Post visited him last year to verify his identity. Maybe he wasn’t looking forward to another holiday season of attention, just because of his name.

What would the worst names for Apple employees be?

CNBC started thinking about what might be some of the worst names for Apple employees. Of course Sam Sung tops the list since Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) happens to be the company’s biggest competitor.

Also at the top of the list would by Andy Roid, of course because of the resemblance to Android. And then what about Mike Rosoft? That one’s pretty obvious. Some lesser interesting ones would be Eric Son or Wendy Sfone, which the submitter said could sound like Windows Phone if said with a very heavy accent. Personally, I’m having a little bit of a problem hearing that one.
