Zynga Inc (ZNGA) Was Uncertain Over Its Future, Says Former Developer

Zynga Inc (NASDAQ:ZNGA) has always been aware of criticisms from the gaming community, and used to conduct debates discussing the ambiguous path of the game maker’s business, according to former developer and founder of Mohawk Games, Soren Johnson.

Johnson revealed that Zynga Inc (NASDAQ:ZNGA) was in confusion over its future plans long before it underwent crisis.

Zynga uncertain of its future

While speaking to GamesIndustry.biz Johnson said that he was an employee in Zynga East in 2011, which is a subsidiary of the main business. He is currently heading Mohawk Games, and is working on a strategy called “Mars.” Johnson’s crystal clear understanding of the strategies is evident from the fact that he became impressively popular after his work on Civilization 4. Johnson said that the game will not be available for free, as was the case with Zynga Inc (NASDAQ:ZNGA).

“Zynga has taken a lot of criticism within the game development community for the types of games it makes and how it treats its customers and so on and so forth and the classic dilemma of the business side versus the game design side,” says Johnson.

Johnson went on to say that one thing that intrigued him while he was in Zynga is that those questions asked externally were asked internally also, and a lot of open debates and arguments were held to resolve such issues. Adding to it, he said that Zynga Inc (NASDAQ:ZNGA) didn’t have a clear vision about where it wants to go.

Free-to-play games not popular now

He added that regardless, the job experience was fun for him, and they played internally a lot. He said that when Zynga Inc (NASDAQ:ZNGA) started getting into a crisis, Johnson was confident enough to start his own studio.

Johnson added that free-to-play games are not that popular now, but gamers and developers are still burdened with these sorts of games. Also, those who shell out money on micro transactions each month are keeping the free-to-play games alive even though others do not spend money.
