Nokia Lumia 525 Accidentally Unveiled [REPORT]

New cell phone launches are normally carefully prepared to maximize impact and get people excited, but apparently one of Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V)’s upcoming releases wasn’t important enough to merit such coordination. The Nokia Lumia 525, also called the Glee, was accidentally unveiled as one of the prizes for the Nokia All Access Live Nation Contest, reports Tyler Lee for UberGizmo. And it definitely isn’t just a typeo since the 525 is also named in the small print along with the ad.

The contest runs through November 3, and the new phone wasn’t mentioned at the recent Nokia World event, so it seems like this is part of a product launch that was pushed back, and somebody didn’t get the memo. If the phone isn’t quite ready for release, Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) will have to replace the prize with something else, but that shouldn’t be much of a problem. The 525 will be the update to the 520, Nokia’s popular budget phone, so sending out a couple of mid-range models and an apology for the confusion should be fine.

That, or the accidental image might mean we are about to have some technical details on the 525 ahead of the holiday season. It’s not a heavily anticipated launch – that honor goes to the Lumia 1520 – but it’s certainly and entertaining snafu.

Lumia 1520 is an oversize smartphone

The Lumia 1520 is an oversize smart phone, what some people are calling a “phablet,” that ships with Microsoft’s updated Windows Phone OS that gives large smartphones and tablets more room to maneuver. It also comes with a 20 megapixel camera and is Nokia’s first phone to be powered by a quadcore CPU. Nokia also showcased the Lumia 1320, which looks like the successor to the Lumia 625, and its first tablet the Lumia 2520 at Nokia World.

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) has been making something of a comeback recently, with record sales in its handset division and the Nokia Siemens Networks’ performance has given the share price a boost, up 90% so far this year. Once Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) completes its acquisition of Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V)’s handset division, the NSN will likely form the core of the business going forward.
