Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is tugging at your heartstrings using a notorious historical event which ripped apart families, friends and relationships. The search giant created an ad entitled “Google Commercial: Reunion,” and it features a friendship lost because of the partition of the Pak-India border. And of course—you guessed it—Google search gets the credit for bringing two childhood friends back together after decades apart.

Google India-Pak Ad

“Partitions divide countries, friendships find a way”

The ad runs about three-and-a-half minutes, and it begins with a grandfather telling his granddaughter Suman about his memories of his childhood friend Yousuf and their time growing up in Lahore. With tear-filled eyes, he tells her how the partition divided them as Yousuf ended up on the Pakistan side of the border and Suman’s grandfather ended up in India after the division.

But Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) comes to the rescue as Suman gets on the Internet to search for her grandfather’s friend Yousuf. She uses some of the details from his story to figure out where Yousuf’s current home in Lahore is. After searching through Google, she ends up finding Yousuf and also his grandson Ali.

Google’s ad goes viral

Google has certainly struck an emotional chord with people throughout the Pakistan and India region, and the fact that the ad has gone viral shows just how much they have been touched by this ad. It provides hope that lost relationships can be recovered, thanks to Google’s intuitive search engine. The ad also highlights how important a role the company’s search engine plays in connecting people around the globe and affecting them in more ways than just providing cold information which lives on a page.

This viral Google ad also showcases how the search giant wants to find a place even in the lives of the older generation who may not be adept at searching the Internet or doing anything computer-related.
