Apple Inc. Now Taking Philippine Typhoon Relief Donations via iTunes

Updated on

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) isn’t all just smartphones and tablet computers. The Cupertino-based tech giant also has a softer side, particularly when it comes to helping those in need.

Apple collecting donations for American Red Cross

The company is now taking donations for the American Red Cross to help those affected by Typhoon Haiyan, which tore through the Phillipines just last week. It was reported that 10,000 perished in the storm and that number is predicted to grow when rescue groups reach remote areas.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) shared their efforts on their homepage, but users will have to make donations via iTunes. User can charge donations on their credit or debit cards. If the card is already on file, users can easily sign in and click the “donate” button. There are six increments to choose from ranging from $5.00 to $200.00.

The United States and United Kingdom are sending out military ships to bring aid to those who need it.

Previous partnerships with Red Cross

Last year, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) partnered with the Red Cross to help those affected by Superstorm Sandy. In 2011, they took donations to help those affected by the tsunami in Japan and the earthquakes in Haiti.

Thanks to the tech company’s strong stance of protecting the privacy of theirs users, the Red Cross won’t acknowledge your donation. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) states, “You will received an email receipt from the iTunes Store which will serve as your only acknowledgment of your donation.

The message that comes with the donation prompt explained, “Your gift to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief will support disaster relief efforts to help those affected by disasters such as Superstorm Sandy. Your support will enable the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance to victims of all disasters.”

Donations cannot be made with iTunes credits or gift cards.
