Tesla unveils Model X

Tesla recently unveiled its first pricey SUV Model X at its newly built showroom in Palo Alto. The Model X can be a very powerful revenue generator for Tesla as the company has gained huge goodwill and appreciation with its Model S sedan.

Before Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s mean machines arrived on the scee, major electric car producers were Nissan AltraEV, General Motors EV1, Toyota RAV4 EV and Honda EV Plus hatchback. The hurdles these cars faced were lack of interest, gas price and costs.

The Model X will have more challenges because with this vehicle, Tesla is trying to foray into new territories—the electric SUV is the first of its kind and the market for electric SUV’s is still unknown.

However, the popularity and demand of Tesla Model S indicates that the Model X should also be popular. According to sources, more than eight thousand reservations has already been made for the Model X, but it will not be available to customers until the second half of 2014.
