Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) unveiled its first tablet, the Lumia 2520, at Nokia World in Abu Dhabi. The Lumia 2520 runs on Windows 8.1 RT and supports LTE. Nokia’s venture into tablet territory has been quite late with audacious competitors like HP, Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL) and Toshiba, the PC manufacturers who also design tablets.

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V)’s Lumia 2520 is the second tablet after Windows Surface RT to run on Windows 8.1 RT, which means that Lumia tablets are in direct competition with Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), which is quite fascinating as Microsoft is gearing up to acquire Nokia’s device division.
Lumia 2520 has a striking design with a smooth polycarbonate unibody chassis at the back that extends up to the side of the tablet. The curved design of tablet at the rear does not shake much while placing it on a flat surface. Furthermore, the Lumia 2520 is thin, making it easy to grip. When compared to the Surface 2, Lumia 2520 edges out the competition with a thinner, lighter and more compact feel.

Screen size of the Lumia 2520 is 10.1 inches diagonally with full HD 1,920×1,080 pixel display. The Lumia tablet has a ClearBlack Display filter like Lumia smartphones, which eases out the glare while in the sun. This is an important feature as a tablet is a device that is preferred over smartphones while checking emails and other important data on the go along with reading, watching videos, or browsing pictures.
A volume control button and power / lock button sit on the top edge of the Lumia, and USB 3.0 and HDMI ports are on the right side. On the left side of the tablet are a headphone jack and a charging port. The rear camera is 6.7 megapixels and the front camera is 2 megapixels, which makes it apt for Skype and other video call services.
The Lumia 2520 has a 8,000 mAh battery that will keep the device running for 10 hours, according to the claims made by the Finnish firm. Furthermore, Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) switched to Micro-USB with a proprietary charger that comes with a feature called “fast charging” – through this battery can be charged up to 50% in only 30 minutes and up to 80% in an hour.
Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V)’s Lumia 2520 is powered by 8974 chipset for LTE. Nokia has stated that it will build only those tablets that have both LTE and Wi-Fi, which allows the consumer to use a tablet in as many places as possible.
