Last month, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) released the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, with the former offering Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s first foray into biometrics with a fingerprint scanner being employed to unlock the phone. Today, HTC Corp (TPE:2498) showed one of its own with the unveiling of the One Max, a supersized version of the HTC One.
HTC one Max features
The screen measures 5.9 inches across the diagonal and includes 1920 x 1080 pixels. It’s a hair smaller than the 6.3-inch screen on Samsung’s Galaxy Mega, but it offers much better resolution. The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600 processor, which is paired with 2 GB of RAM. It also features a fingerprint scanner on the back of the device, whereas the iPhone 5S scanner is on the front of the phone. The sensor asks and requires users to swipe their finger downward in order to function as a security device to launch certain applications.
The HTC Max is primarily made from aluminum that is augmented by a polycarbonate frame and employs the same design language as the One and the One Mini. The same BoomSound speakers as the the One and the One mini in conjunction with its large screen could almost allow you to play DJ at your next (cocktail) party. It measures 6.47 x 3.25 x 0.43 inches and weighs nearly half a pound, no small amount for a “phone.”
HTC Max OS and network support
The Max will run Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and includes the same UltraPixel camera with ImageChip found in the One and One Mini. Both its main camera and front-facing camera are able to capture HD video.
The One Max supports global HSPA+ and LTE networks along with the industry standard dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options. The back of the phone is removable in order to access internal memory but the batter is fixed in place. The phone maker claims that the battery can offer 28 hours of talk time but that claim has yet to be backed up by an independent diagnostic breakdown of the phone.
As of yet, no U.S. carrier has announced that they would be offering the phone or have any launches planned. The company declined to mention the price of the phone but don’t expect anything short of a hefty price tag when it begins shipping internationally sometime later this month.
